Dwyane's Advice to Parents Of LGBTQ Children

Oprah and Sterling K. Brown sat down with Dwyane Wade to talk about advice that he has for parents of LGBTQ children particularly in the African American community.

Dwyane says that you “don’t need to tell your child who they are or what they like, that's not my job” the NBA star says while explaining that he believes it’s the job of a father to help their children along the journey. "Once you tell me who you are, who you feel are. Now it's my job to ask more question. To help you be more of who you are" he continues.

Dwyane had this honest conversation about fatherhood during Oprah's Father’s Day OWN special, Honoring Our Kings, Celebrating Black Fatherhood. The retired NBA player delved into how his perspective changed after his daughter, Zaya Wade, came out as transgender.
